I was born and raised in Toowoomba. In 1967 I commenced my undergraduate degree in Chemistry with the first group of students to enrol on the campus of what was the Darling Downs campus of the Queensland Institute of Technology and is now the University of Southern Queensland. After graduation, in 1970, I moved to Brisbane where I completed my Masters degree in Organic Chemistry at the University of Queensland while undertaking research at the Queensland Institute of Technology (now QUT). In 1973 I completed a Diploma in Education at the University of Queensland. I taught and was Principal in Queensland secondary schools for a total of 17 years before joining USQ as a lecturer in 1991. During 2001-2002 I worked with the Educational Technology group at Purdue University in the USA. After returning to USQ in 2002 I served in various administrative roles as well continuing with teaching and research. In 2012 I was promoted to am Professor (Educational Technology) and was Chair of Academic Board during 2014-15.
My research interests have centred on online education, integration of ICT in teaching, and the educational application of multimedia. My publications list includes links to the full text of a number of papers. I have supervised several research students in related areas.
I have been an active member of several professional associations. From 1995 until 2001 I was chair of the Toowoomba Chapter of the Queensland Society for Information Technology in Education and during 1999 – 2001 I was Editor of the QSITE Journal, QUICK. From 2005 until 2009 I was Vice-President of the Information Technology Council in the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education. I was an Associate Editor for the Journal of Technology and Teacher Education from 2005 until March 2012 and Editor-in-Chief from then until March 2015.
