Sherry Turkle expands on some ideas from her book, Alone Together. Interesting piece. I'm not sure that I entirely buy the idea that 9/11 drives our need for connectivity to the extent that is suggested. There are plenty of day to day factors that make the world seem less safe than it did when I was a kid and drive a need to connect for help. The issues around how we deal with being alone vs lonely are worth more thought.
