Blackboard vs. Moodle

Kathy Munoz & Joan Van Duzer at Humboldt State University have reported on a direct comparison of Blackboard & Moodle in Blackboard vs. Moodle – A Comparison of Satisfaction with Online Teaching and Learning Tools.

They set out to answer the question: “Can free software satisfactorily meet the needs of students, faculty, and instructional technologists for online teaching and learning?” They report data from a head to head comparison of the same course offered in the different environments with students assigned randomly to the environments.

Each environment had advantages and disadvantages but Moodle seemed to have the edge in student preferences.
